On April 24th '04 TNT's President, Angela Gallo competed in her first Figure Contest, placing second in her division. The show (The Metrolina) was hosted by Morrisonproductions and held in Kannapolis, NC. The contest was based on over-all body symmetry, physique and stage presence. Gallo states that the training and preparation was not only physically challenging but more than anything it was mentally challenging. "Considering my past was a roller coaster of weight ups and downs and body image struggles (which eventually inspired Gallo to the development of the TNT program in '93), to be able to stand on a stage and allow my body to be judged, what a head game that could of been...but I took the advise my trainer (thanks Roger Morrison!) told me.. Train to be the best YOU can be and nothing else matters... so I did and although I would of loved to have come in first it is quit rewarding to know I was able to push myself to a new level and overcome one of my greatest fears (being judged).
This experience has motivated me to help my clients more than ever before. Change is hard but w/a good support system, a realistic goal and an action plan - it can happen!

The Charlotte Observer
‘I was blessed with this career’
Angela Gallo, 33, battled bulimia through high school and college. She
endured years of bingeing and purging, even as she was studying to be a dietitian.
She conquered her disease in her early 20s, and is founder and president
of Total Nutrition Technology in Charlotte. She spoke with staff writer Stan
Choe about pursuing a career close to her heart.
My personal struggles with weight are what inspired me to get into this
field.
What makes me tick, what gives me that personal fulfillment is that I can
use my experience to help turn people’s lives around.
I grew up in a very dysfunctional environment. Some people turn to alcohol
or drugs. I turned to food. At 15, I realized I was fat. I remember my first
day I binged and purged on brownies. I thought I had found the best thing
in the world. I thought I could eat whatever I wanted.
Binge/purge eating lasted until I was 17, and it 100 percent controlled
my life. It was an everyday ritual and routine. Because my binges were so
large, I weighted more than my binge and purge cycle. It’s so twisted-you
think you’re doing it for weight-loss purposes. It wasn’t doing
that at all. It was just a fix that I needed. It was affecting my energy
level. I couldn’t think clearly I didn’t have my periods. My
skin was dry. My mom brought me to a treatment center one day. I was there
for three months. I didn’t binge and purge for a long time after that,
but I went into unhealthy relationships. I started bingeing again.
I hit rock bottom at 20. I had my degree in nutrition, and I knew darn
well that I was killing myself. I just stopped school and put myself into
treatment. After I got put of the hospital the second time, I went to the
University of Florida to get a dual degree in exercise sports science.
I decided this is what I’ve got to do with my life. I put up a flier
in the gym, saying hey, if you need a healthy meal plan, I can help you.
It was almost like I couldn’t wait. It was part of my recovery too.
To help people and talk to them, I was reinforcing the lessons to myself.
I tell my clients they’re my support system. When I look back at my
life, as yucky as it sounds that I went through two treatment centers, now
I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I feel like I was blessed with this career. People go through life thinking,
“I don’t know what I want to do.” It’s a cliché,
but find a job you love and you don’t have to “work” another
day of your life.

A Healthy Collaboration
Charlotte Business Journal
Online, nutrition ventures put growth on the menu
Jen Zoghby, Staff Writer
Angela Gallo and Joe Copley share the laughter of old friends and the easy warmth of a brother and sister.
Together, they built their own business while helping each other. Copley Internet Systems Inc. became the technology power behind Gallo's Total Nutrition Technology Inc., and Gallo became Copley's keystone customer.
Internet overload brought them together last year.
That's when a British magazine named Gallo's site — tntgetfit.com — one of the top online weight-loss programs. Her site couldn't support the sudden resulting surge of traffic. Copley's e-wizardry came into the picture, helping Gallo out of the Web jam and eventually staying on to improve the site.
The two have since maintained separate businesses but increased their work together. Earlier this year, Copley designed an online weight-management program using Gallo's research, menus and expertise. The software is sold to health-care clinics and gyms, and there is also a retail version available for individuals.
Gallo, who once suffered from bulimia, says the Internet offers a good avenue for many who have nutrition needs — as long as the online information is supervised by a professional.
"The Internet can be so abused," she says. Gallo's system includes 15 pages of personalized information that allows her staff to customize a plan for each client.
Copley's strengths help there, as well. He has safeguarded the system to allow for proper follow-through from the licensed dieticians on Gallo's staff. The information can be read only by the dieticians, who then craft meal plans and fitness requirements, based on each client's needs.
"He knows the computer," Gallo says. "I know the nutrition."
Copley is pleased with the business relationship, noting that he has learned a lot about nutrition, menus and state regulations. But he's also learned about his own business.
"It's mostly discovering what the Web can do and should do," he says. "And that's a mutual investment."
Gallo says her business has benefited from sticking with Copley and working exclusively with him on her company's technology needs.
"We don't know the right answers on everything yet," she says. "We're just kind of learning as we go."

Angela Gallo Interviewed in Muscular Development Magazine
Bob Lefavi, PhD, CSCS, CHES, is Associate Professor of Health Science at Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, GA interviewed Angela Gallo DTR, nutrition and fat-loss expert, in the Muscular Development March 1999 issue. Here is what Ms. Gallo had to say:
"A-Gap"
Gallo likes to use the term "a-gap" to represent the bridge that needs to develop between our unhealthy culture and healthy living. The first "A" stands for awareness. "First, education must take place," Gallo says. The "G" in gap stands for goal. Gallo explains that every client must have definite short-term and long-term goals. These goals, says Gallo, must be realistic and pertain to your overall body composition goal. The second "A" (the one in gap) stands for action plan.
Gallo explains that a meal-planning system must be in place, but it must be one you're comfortable with. The "P" in gap stands for persistence. Gallo tells many stories of some of her more famous clients that came close to giving up, particularly when sticking points occur - and they do occur, with everyone!
The Three "S's"
In her counseling, Gallo has also found that there are three important "S's". She believes that structure equals support. By structure, Gallo explains that the meal plan and exercise regimen, while flexible, must not be too loose; it's got to have some rigidity to it. There has got to be some aspects of it that must not change. For instance, she believes strongly in the concept of small, frequent meals. Thus, no matter how the foods might change in a person's meal plan, meal frequency is a constant.
Gallo has found that support systems often make or break a program. She says that "friends and family should be told about your desired change." That "external" accountability makes it more difficult for you to go off your program, she says.
"Surround yourself with successful people," Gallo recommends. "I can usually predict a person's success by their level of self-efficacy [how much they think they can succeed]. But the more you talk with successful people, the more you see that you can do it!"
